Education and Youth Development

The Youth Advocacy Committee gives young people a safe and supportive environment in which they can voice their concerns and begin to address issues that affect their lives. The committee is a vehicle for accessing government policy-makers and other community stakeholders.

    Hello Fellow Neighborhood Council Members,

My name is Jose Oliva, Sylmar Neighborhood Council Public Relations Coordinator. I am also involved in various organizations (Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Los Angeles Mission College, MEND and the Valley Economic Alliance). At the moment I am concerned neighbor.

On Saturday, October 27th a High School Student from Vaughn Next Century High School (V.I.S.A.) was ran over (on the corner of Herrick & Paxton in Pacoima) and she is currently hospitalized.
I would like to commit in organizing something that our local community is informed and our politicians can help on the Safety of our children. It has been a concern of the Director of the School, Ms. Anita Zepeda and High School Principal, Stan Leandro, as well as the students for a few years. But they have not had the response that they would like. Unfortunately this happened to a student from our community.

I am willing to bring out Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Safety & Injury Prevention programs. Together we can bring out our local politicians and try to organize a safety day at the school. http://www.chla.org/site/c.ipINKTOAJsG/b.4497497/k.536B/Safety_Tips_and_Injury_Prevention.htm
This can be extended in various schools in Pacoima, Sylmar and our local neighbor cities.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at (818) 639-2025.
Thank you and I hope to hear from a representative from your neighborhood council and organize something that we can help better the future of our neighborhood.

    Best Regards,

    Jose Oliva
